Happy Tuesday, 11th graders!
Please have your 20 event timeline out and ready to work with!
1. Attendance and announcements.
Timeline due TODAY. Make sure your work is in the Assignment Dropbox.
Sign up to attend one day of Graduation Defense. All 11th graders are required to observe one defense, but you are welcome to see more.
**May 8: 2nd check-in for internships. All students should have reached out to someone about their summer internship by this date.**
Juniors, Parents, and Pizza Night - Wednesday May 9. Please RSVP if you plan to make it!
2. Pair and Share
Share your timeline with one other person and together discuss:
a) What patterns, ideas or themes emerge when you review your timelines?
b) Are there significant people who crop up again and again?
c) Which experiences truly changed your perspective on things in an important way?
d) Which experiences/events inspire strong emotion?
e) What seems clichéd or potentially boring?
If your stories are particularly personal you may choose to work independently.
3. Narrow it Down.
After discussing the above questions, narrow down three possible topics/themes that would help a college admissions committee understand why they want YOU, the applicant.
If you're still have trouble identifying a theme for your essay, here are some more ideas:
A significant relationship I had or have
A treasured object I possess
A time I took a risk
A time I felt humbled
One thing very few people know about me is
Something I regret
A time when I was, or felt, rejected
Something I am really proud of
Something that changed the way I think or look at the world
How I am different from most people I know
My greatest fear
A time I felt truly satisfied
A person I admire
An object I own that tells a lot about me
Something funny that I did or that happened to me
4. Watch: Hunting for Milestones
5. Begin writing.
Please use remaining class time to write the first paragraph of your essay. Don't worry about getting it just right. Instead, just WRITE.
The first draft of your college admissions essay is due in one week on Tuesday, May 8.
